When is trash pickup? Can I get a COVID test on Christmas?

The most important question on the holidays each year is, “When do you pick up trash?” This year, the second most popular question could be, “Can I get a COVID-19 test while on vacation?”

Garbage collection

The city of Cincinnati and Rumpke in other parishes in the area, including Kentucky, will not have garbage collection on Christmas Day. The garbage collection service will be relocated one day. So if you are usually picked up on Friday, put the bins down for Saturday. There won’t be any garbage collection on New Years Day either, and the service will one day move.

COVID test

There are no pop-up test sites scheduled in Hamilton County on Christmas Eve or Christmas Eve. The drive-through test in St. Elizabeth in Erlanger is also closed on December 24th and 25th.

Postal service

Post offices are closed early on Christmas Eve. So check the branches for hours. There is no mail delivery on Christmas Day and the post offices are closed.


The libraries are closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas. They are open until 5 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, but closed on New Year’s Day.


Call for hours on Christmas Eve. The courts are closed on Christmas Day. Bonds may be deposited 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in the Municipal Crime / Transportation Department of the Hamilton County Municipal Crime / Transportation Department on the first floor of the Hamilton County Justice Center, 1000 Sycamore St., Downtown.

Metro buses run on Sundays / bank holidays during Christmas and New Years.


The Cincinnati Bell Connector is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas and New Years.


In Cincinnati, the city’s garages are charged for public holidays, and parking meters are not enforced on Christmas Day or New Years.


Call on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve for reduced hours. The banks are closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
