What Real Estate Agents Should Know About Tipping A Moving Company
Will your buyer or seller customers move? One of the questions they may have is what to give the moving company. Moving is a groundbreaking job. Between February and July 2020 alone, more than 15.9 million people movedand some people move across the country.
How much tip should you give the moving company? This question is very valid, and we’re going to look at some of the answers what movers tip and how to do it when three or four of them are involved in a move.
Many moving websites suggest that we should tip our moving companies. Most say that 15 to 20 percent of the total price is reasonable for a large move and 5 to 10 percent for a small move. You should let your customers know that for complicated moves involving a few flights of stairs, the moving company will likely do a pre-assessment and charge an appropriate fee.
The other factor that should be considered when tipping moving companies is how careful they are when protecting personal belongings. If they go beyond that, tips should reflect that.
Did one of your belongings break during the move?
Some people say we shouldn’t tip moving companies at all as the company pays moving companies for their time, usually at the hourly rate. The feeling is that it should be enough to cover them. I cannot entirely agree with this statement as it is a service industry. So it’s worth giving them a tip.
Tip for moving companies under any circumstances?
So we found out that you don’t have to Tippers, but a good moving experience is well worth the extra cash on, especially if you’ve ever had a terrible move.
Moving is a service industry and as such, tip only when you are excited with the service.
When your customers ask their opinion on whether or not to tip, consider the following questions:
- How many stairs were involved in the move?
- Did you have to hand in things on the way, for example bring a cupboard to your mother’s house?
- Do you have a lot of old heavy furniture like a piano?
- Were you careful putting in your antiques? appropriate moving boxes?
- Were you polite and efficient?
- Did you wrap the artwork in bubble wrap?
Shall we provide the movers with food and drink?
Some buyers or sellers may ask if they should provide drinks or even groceries to the moving company. If the move takes all day, it is appropriate to offer them food and drink, even if you tip. It must be easily accessible during a move, e.g. B. tea, coffee or soda.
Ask them what they would like for lunch and place a fast food order or delivery service. Only deliver drinks for moves less than half a day. Moving is a strenuous job and we don’t want them to get dehydrated, especially in hot weather. It is good advice to encourage your customers to have plenty of cold water available.
Your customers should understand that moving companies shouldn’t consume beer, wine, or any other alcohol at work as it can cause problems. The OSHA also recommends that moving companies not drink.
Ways to tip movers
Some other things worth explaining to your customers by buyers and sellers: If you’ve employed a large moving company, they likely included the tip on your bill, which means you’ll pay in one transaction at the end of the move .
Here are a few more things customers should be aware of:
- Tapping a credit card allows you to use it as a tax deduction when you move to work. If you tip with cash, you will not be able to substantiate the amounts.
- Another way to check the transaction for documentation purposes is to make a payment by check for the tips and allow the crew to apportion it among the moving companies.
- Cash is fine but will not be received so you will not be able to claim the tax amount. I prefer to use cash to tip the moving team as this way you know everyone is getting the correct amount, like other tips based on the group leader’s honesty and their interpretation of fairness.
Make sure you check out the movers
One thing that you cannot emphasize enough to your customers is the importance of verifying the moving company. Unfortunately, there are a lot of fly-by-night companies in the moving industry. Moving scams are the order of the day.
It is best to take the time to warn your customers. Make sure you provide them with a list of local and national airlines that you either have personal experience with or with other people you trust. Remember, your customers are counting on you to provide reliable references. You don’t want to leave them an uncomfortable lasting memory. A bad experience will be a bad reflection of you and one that you will likely remember.
A good moving company is like gold. You don’t want anything broken or ruined during the move. Or worse, find something of value that is lost in transit.
If something is lost, the company should help track it down and get it back to you quickly. A move is no doubt going to bother your customers, and you want it to go as smoothly as possible.
