In the early days of the pandemic, shopping was the most stressful thing for me.

Covered in a mask and gloves, I went to my shop to get essentials while pondering the multitude of germs I gathered along the way. Unloading was the worst – having to decontaminate everything before putting it in the pantry and refrigerator.

The whole process made my stress rise to the surface and set out like a geyser. Yes, I am a germaphobe.

It’s Got Better – Reports have shown that wiping food doesn’t help very much. But going to the stores is still difficult for me. Of course I do this every now and then. I stopped by Walmart a couple of times to collect puzzles, embroidery and anything to pass the time. When I ventured into the grocery department, I was shocked by the prices – they were remarkably lower than my store’s, even for organic products.

Cut to this week when a friend told me about Walmart’s new pickup and delivery service and I felt compelled to try – not setting foot in a store sounded like a balm to my nerve-wracking soul.

There are different ways to get your goods. You can collect your order from your local store for free ($ 35 minimum) – and it’s contactless. An employee loads the bags directly into your trunk! But I decided to pay the $ 7.95 for delivery – not getting off the sofa appealed to me the most. You can even pay $ 10 for express delivery and get your stuff in two hours or less.

Do you need more incentives? Right now you can Use code WOWFRESH to get $ 10 off your first order ($ 50 minimum).

Rummage

The website was easy to navigate – it is divided into categories and highlights specialties like coffee. There’s a search bar if you want direct access and it will quickly find your item and similar items so you can compare the store. As a health conscious pescatarian, I was pleased that most of my points of contact were available.

The story goes on

While Walmart offers same day delivery, I must have missed my window so my order was scheduled for the next day and I could choose a one hour window from many available times. There is an up-to-date text option that lets you know the status. It’s not like I’m going anywhere so I knew I would be home but I liked the gesture.

To get my train

On the morning of I received an email that the Lysol spray I ordered was not available – unsurprisingly, this item was out of stock. At 10:51 am I received a text with a link that my groceries should arrive by 11:01 am, which was one minute in my hour window. I clicked the link and a map with the location of the driver. A few minutes later the doorbell rang and I found the packages delivered to my back door as requested and received a text letting me know.

I went out to find the bags neatly stacked on my table, and the one with eggs was fragile – a clever and cherished detail. Everything looked fresh, still frozen and cold as it should be. There were no ice packs, but my order arrived here as quickly as if I had bought it myself.

Even if you order in advance, your items will be hand picked the same day – and when I saw my perfectly ripe avocados I could tell. Walmart’s Pickup & Delivery employees actually go through “academy training” before becoming certified pickers. So basically they’ll get you the good stuff. I also liked that there is a guarantee; If you are unhappy with any of your items, you can notify Walmart through the app and receive a refund.

I wish they had used fewer bags, but I understand why they didn’t: the goods were packaged by category. Additionally, shopping at Walmart was a great experience overall. I may never have to change my pajamas again.

This surface cleaner was a breeze. I appreciate the seventh generation’s mission – to be clean without harming the environment. This lemongrass disinfectant kills 99 percent of all bacteria and viruses. It’s a conditioner-free formula and safe for food and toys. This is perfect when I’m forced to spray disinfectant on those blueberries.

I’ve been using OLLY vitamin gums for a couple of years now. They are made from natural ingredients like beet sugar and the flavors are appealing and not too sweet. I was looking for the brand’s STRESS rubbers but they were out of stock. The prices are so good that I chose IMMUNITY. I haven’t seen it anywhere for less than $ 14 so it was worth stocking up for at $ 13.

Since switching to a plant-based diet, Beyond Meat has been one of my staple foods. It has 20 grams of protein per serving and is surprisingly tasty. The patties are handy for making 10 minute meals and it really suppresses burger cravings.

I try to stay away from white bread and sugar. Ezekiel’s Organic Sprout Bread doesn’t contain either – it’s a great alternative to traditional options, and provides protein, amino acids, and nutrients.

A good decaf is hard to find. I’ve been caffeine free for years, but I still love the taste of coffee. Walmart offers Starbucks Decaf so I know I’m getting the good stuff. While I prefer whole beans so I can grind them myself, I like to use Walmart’s pre-ground option for simplicity.

It never hurts to stock up on hand sanitizer, and at $ 2 for an 8-ounce bottle, it’s nice to see a decent pre-COVID price on Germ-x. Since the alcohol can dry out, the added vitamin E is by no means negligent.

I also try to keep my kittens healthy. I looked for a different brand but was happy to find this restricted ingredient option. My cats are fussy so it’s nice to be able to try a few different flavors in the small doses to see if they found a new favorite.

Walmart has a great organic section, and the prices are so affordable – this bag of 3-5 avocados is only $ 3. All organic options were significantly cheaper than the competition. Result.
