MRRL locker at Capital Mall available for contactless pickup

Claudia Cook, Director of the Missouri River Regional Library, shows how to use the contactless lockers in the Capital Mall. They are located on the north wall of Center Court and are now available for library users to order for books to be picked up at this West End location. For use, the consumer places his card in front of the barcode reader in front of the device and the door of the locker where the items are located opens for the user to retrieve. The Missouri River Regional Library offered cardholders the option on Wednesday to pick up materials they check out at the Capital Mall in a contactless locker.

The library received a Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act grant from the Institute for Museum and Library Services through the Missouri State Library for a remote locker system at the Jefferson City Mall.

The locker is now available.

The Remote Book Locker project provides better access to library materials to any MRRL cardholder who keeps items in the library catalog, according to an MRRL press release. Cardholders may withhold materials owned by the library or available through the MOBIUS consortia or interlibrary loan. Cardholders choose the locker as the pickup point and upon delivery, the user will be notified that the request is ready.

“We have selected a locker system with lockers that is large enough to hold a wide variety of physical library items, including the large instructional and STEAM kits that we have in our collection,” said MRRL Director Claudia Cook in a press release. “Most importantly, the Missouri River Regional Library will be able to provide more convenient and secure pickup options by creating a contactless service delivery option for the Cole County community.”
