MAGNA sponsors Nick Durrant
Nick Durrant is the new Managing Director of MAGNA, the Media Intelligence and Investment Division of IPG Mediabrands in Australia. He has been General Manager, Investments at MAGNA since February last year, assuming the role of Managing Director after making many important decisions regarding media investments from clients in a turbulent 2020. Durrant is the former chief partnerships and investment officer at Initiative and national general manager of trading at News Corp.
Zenith appoints Sydney MD
Zenith Australia has promoted insider Jonny Cordony to the new role of Managing Director – Sydney. He has been General Manager in Sydney for almost three years. He is tasked with leading the brand’s vision for the Sydney office, building high performing teams, and driving strategic partnerships and growth results for clients. Cordony has been with Zenith for nearly five years and joined in 2016 as the national communications planning director. Prior to that, he was Group Business Director at various agencies, including Regional Business Director in Hong Kong for Dentsu.
Brendon Cook joins the Vamp Board
The influencer marketing platform Vamp has the founder of Ooh! Media, Brendon Cook, named an independent director. The appointment is the first published move for Cook since leaving the out-of-home media company earlier this year. Cook headed oOh! Media for more than 30 years as CEO. Cook joins co-founders Ben McGrath and Aaron Brooks as well as Gill Findlay and Investec on the board.
JCDecaux increases Oliver Newton
Out-of-home media company JCDecaux announced the promotion of Oliver Newton to Chief Sales Officer. Previously General Manager of Sales, Newton has over 15 years of sales experience and joined JCDecaux UK in 2006 as Business Development Manager before joining JCDecaux Australia in 2010. In this new role, he will develop the relationship between advertisers and direct advertisers as well as take overall responsibility for the JCDecaux Nurture program to support Australian startups.
Amplified Intelligence grabs ex-unruly boss
Adtech veteran Phil Townend has joined Professor Karen Nelson-Field’s media research and technology company Amplified Intelligence as Chief Growth Officer. With the appointment, Townend will lead commercial expansion alongside CEO and global thought leader Nelson-Field. A 22-year digital advertising veteran, Townend most recently served as Unruly’s Regional General Manager and APAC Chief Revenue Officer. Over a 10-year period, he helped Unruly grow from a UK-based startup to a global presence in over 18 countries and was acquired by News Corp in 2015.
Tribal’s first CSO
Tribal Australia, part of the DDB Group, has hired Colin Jowell as its first Chief Strategy Officer to further strengthen his strategic skills and credentials. Jowell most recently worked at KPMG as part of the consulting company’s customer, brand and marketing consultancy. Jowell first came to KPMG in 2018 after acquiring UDKU, an innovation agency he founded with Mark Timmins and Kon Marinis in 2013. Before joining UDKU, Jowell headed the strategy department at M & C Saatchi in South Africa, Malaysia and most recently Australia for several years.
New marketer at Destination NSW
Destination NSW has appointed Kathryn Illy as General Manager Consumer Marketing effective May 10th. Illy joins Destination NSW from PwC Australia where she was Director of Branding and Marketing responsible for leading the organization’s national branding and marketing strategy. Prior to PwC, Illy led the development and delivery of branding and marketing programs for a number of financial services companies including the Macquarie Group, Kessler Financial Services Australia and CommSec.
InMobi appoints first global head of marketing
InMobi adtech company has named Krista Thomas senior vice president and global director of marketing for InMobi Marketing Cloud. Thomas brings 20 years of experience in the media and marketing industry to InMobi. In her new role, she is tasked with expanding the global awareness and influence of InMobi Marketing Cloud, optimizing customer acquisition, and bringing innovative new solutions to market that leverage InMobi’s end-to-end advertising solutions to Engage audiences, nurture meaningful connections, and encourage growth. Previously, Thomas was SVP Marketing for Amobee. Thomas previously worked as SVP Marketing for VideoAmp and as VP Product Marketing for Rubicon Project (now Magnite).
Promotions at DDB Remedy
DDB Remedy has carried out two new promotions. Jacki Williams has been promoted from Business Director to Senior Business Director in recognition of her work and support for the DDB Remedy team. Williams has been on the Remedy team for over nine years, working for a range of pharmaceutical accounts. Narve Thakrar has been promoted from Group Business Director to Managing Partner as he has continued to contribute to the agency over the past several years. Thakrar has been with the DDB Remedy team in London and Sydney for nearly nine years, responsible for providing strategic advice and overseeing customer health and pharmaceutical accounts.
The activation agency Traffik, part of the Clemenger Group, has presented a significant rebranding and an expansion of its range of services as part of its new positioning Everything Activation. To support the agency’s expanded capabilities, Traffik has hired a number of new specialists including: Sam Fairley, Head of Shopper; Mark Edney, Head of Sponsorship; Eliza Millet, planner; Elena Macdonald, creative; Steph Sheen, Account Director and Aleks Corke, Production.
Thrive welcomes Melbourne GM
Thrive PR + Communications has appointed former Haystac GM Melbourne, Nicole Hamilton, to the newly created GM Thrive Melbourne role. The agency is also in the final stages of appointing its first general manager for its Queensland operations, overseeing both the Brisbane and Gold Coast locations. Hamilton brings over 17 years of experience in international and local agencies, both on consumer and corporate branding.
