Merck, Bristol Myers Squibb, PayPal, Apple – Thursday’s Premarket Movers

Stock futures rose a day after the S&P 500 closed slightly higher, but extended its winning streak to three trading sessions.

Here are some of the top movers during Thursday’s premarket trading.

1. Merck HRC | Plus 0.8%

Merck (MRK) – Get the report Stocks have barely changed after the drug maker posted weaker-than-expected earnings in the fourth quarter and long-time CEO Ken Frazier would retire later this year.

2. Bristol-Myers Squibb BMY | Plus 0.6%

Bristol-Myers Squibb shares (BMY) – Get the report The premarket surged after the healthcare giant posted a result that exceeded expectations in the fourth quarter and increased its earnings outlook for the remainder of the year.

The company has also signed a contract with Rockefeller University for the rights to a Covid-19 therapy that combines two antibodies, the drug maker said on Wednesday.

3. American Airlines AAL | 1.5% decrease

American Airlines shares (EEL) – Get the report fell after the airline announced it would send up to 13,000 vacation alerts in the coming months as the pandemic continues.

4. PayPal PYPL | Plus 6.7%

Shares from PayPal (PYPL) – Get the report jumped after the digital payments company tripled fourth quarter earnings year-over-year, beating Wall Street estimates.

5. Apple AAPL | Plus 1.8%

Shares in tech giant Apple (AAPL) – Get the report Investors were encouraged by the company’s reports to partner with South Korean automaker Hyundai-Kia to build an Apple Car at a Georgia plant.
