Trucks come and go on Main Street when McGregor’s Furniture and Mattress returns home.

On Tuesday morning, vans loaded with mattresses, box spring beds, bed frames and more were pulled in front of and behind Main Street. Workers from McGregor’s locations in Marshalltown, Waterloo, and Ottumwa began unloading the items and bringing them into the store.

Kayla Giesking, the deputy general manager in charge of the move, instructed where to take items in the multi-story store and plans to open the Main Street location by Saturday.

“Everything should be ready by this weekend.” She said. “It will be so nice to be here and have our shop again.”

McGregors was damaged by the 2018 tornado and the company was temporarily relocated to Marshalltown Mall. Since then, a lot of work has been done at the Main Street Store preparing for the return and creating a better shopping experience for customers.

Neal Fullilove and Dalton Nichols move a mattress on the second floor of McGregors Main Street. The shop is open to customers from Saturday.

“We picked up people’s complaints the way this place was before and we improved it.” Said Giesking. “We have better lighting. We opened the windows. It’s much more open here. “

After the building repairs were completed, it was decided to move to the old location as soon as possible. Giesking said the cleaning must also be done after the August 10 dercho.

“We had to plan it and make sure the other businesses could help,” She said. “We wanted to get back in here. We didn’t want to wait any longer. “

Giesking said some boxes had been seen in the Marshalltown Mall in the past few days and some customers were curious about what happened. When they learned that McGregors was moving home, she said they had decided to wait for their furniture purchases until the move was complete.

New items will be featured in the Main Street Store after it opens. Giesking said some furniture had arrived after the original store was announced, so it was decided to keep it in the warehouse and display it on Main Street.

McGregors employees Stacey Jones and Jack Jones are bringing a mattress to Main Street on Tuesday. The long-standing Marshalltown furniture store transports items from its temporary location in the Marshalltown Mall to Main Street.

“Everyone is so excited” Said Giesking. “Some of our new employees have not been here before so it will be a new experience for everyone. I really love it here. It’s so open compared to the mall. “
