LONDON, ONT – US Customs and Border Protection officials at the Blue Water Bridge confiscated a large amount of marijuana from a utility vehicle with Ontario license plates.

The truck driver said they had a load of office furniture. Upon further investigation, officials on Monday found more than 1,100 pounds of marijuana in vacuum-sealed packages hidden in cardboard boxes.

The Detroit Field Office, which covers all Michigan ports of entry, has seen a significant increase in narcotics seized since the COVID-19 travel restrictions went into effect.

Since March, more than 4,400 pounds of marijuana have been seized at various ports of entry across Michigan.
