FTSE 100 movers: BT rallies; miners retreat
The London FTSE 100 rose 0.3% to 7,089.12 in afternoon trading on Monday.
BT was the standout winner following the announcement of the launch of a new business unit that will “serve the millions of UK firms that are either small or just starting out”.
Royal Mail rallied after reports it will be offering timed delivery slots next year as it looks like it could compete with it Amazon.
Home builders picked up after the latest Halifax poll showed house prices hit another record high in May, growing 9.5% annually. House prices rose 1.3% during the month.
The sector was also upgraded by a note from Liberum that was upgraded Taylor Wimpey ‘buy’ by ‘hold’ and said persimmon was his “top pick” with a large market cap.
On the other hand, miners Antofagasta, Anglo-American and Glencore were all weaker after disappointing Chinese trade data and falling base metal prices.
