FedEx: 100 Percent Electric Pickup/Delivery Fleet by 2040
FedEx Corp., a company that provides a broad portfolio of transportation, e-commerce and corporate services to customers and businesses worldwide, has announced details of its goal to be carbon neutral worldwide by 2040.
To achieve this goal, FedEx plans an initial investment of more than $ 2 billion in three key areas: vehicle electrification, sustainable energy and carbon sequestration.
“We have a responsibility to take bold action to address the climate challenge,” said Frederick W. Smith, Chairman and CEO of FedEx Corp. -term, transformation solutions for FedEx and our entire industry. “
Important steps to achieve the climate-neutral goal are:
-Vehicle electrification. By 2040, the entire FedUD fleet for parcel pickup and delivery (PUD) will be emission-free electric vehicles. This will be achieved through gradual programs to replace existing vehicles. For example, by 2025, 50% of FedEx Express global PUD vehicle purchases will be electric and will increase to 100% of all purchases by 2030
– Sustainable fuels. FedEx will continue to invest in alternative fuels to reduce emissions from aircraft and vehicles
According to FedEx, its commitment is built on a history of sustainable practices. Since 2009, the company’s efforts have helped reduce CO2 emissions intensity across the company by approximately 40%, while package volume has increased 99% over that period.
