Arcata Offering Compost Bin Curbside Pickup and Delivery – Redheaded Blackbelt

This is a press release from the city of Arcata:

The city of Arcata is encouraging community members not to create waste through composting during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The demand for food has increased significantly as parishioners stay home more often and many residents spend more time in their gardens.

The Department of Environmental Services recommends composting food, food-contaminated paper, garden and grass waste to keep these materials out of the landfill.

To make composting more accessible to Arcata residents during the COVID-19 pandemic, the city is offering roadside pickup and free delivery to all residents who purchase a compost bin.

Backyard compost bins can be purchased for the discounted price of $ 25 by emailing the environmental department [email protected] or by phone at (707) 822-8184. Arrangements for roadside pickup or delivery are made at the time of purchase and proof of residence within Arcata city limits is required.

For more information on zero-waste practices, visit or contact the Environmental Services Department at (707) 822-8184.
