Albertsons Companies pilots automated, contactless grocery PickUp kiosk

The US food and drug dealer Albertsons Companies is testing an automated and contactless PickUp kiosk for groceries to provide easy service to its customers, especially amid the pandemic.

The automated, temperature-controlled kiosk was developed by the provider of automated pick-up solutions Cleveron and offers a contactless pick-up experience.

Customers can select the “Kiosk PickUp” option and collect their groceries, which is automatically delivered to the front of the device within the 2-hour time window.

The launch is in line with the company’s commitment to service optimization and is part of the company’s continued expansion into the e-commerce business.

Albertsons EVP and Chris Rupp, Chief Customer & Digital Officer, said: “We are expanding our digital and omnichannel offerings to serve customers how they want, whenever they want.

“This innovative and contactless PickUp kiosk makes it even easier for customers to shop with us in a way that is convenient for them.”

The kiosk is currently being piloted in Chicago Jewel-Osco stores, and the company plans to install a second unit in a Bay Area Safeway.

The device has two regular temperature zones and a freezer area in which the customer’s order can be saved.

The full-service technology partner Telaid installed the kiosk.
